Reflections - End of This Blog :(
This year I feel like I learned a lot more about our country than I came in knowing. At the beginning of the year, I did not have a passion for history, but at the end I enjoyed my time. From learning about the indians, the Civil War, and finally the Cuban missile crisis, my knowledge has increased greatly. The movie 13 Years portrayed everyone's role during the Cuban missile crisis. Every single detail had to be planned out for it to work, and everyone included was important. The main theme in history is learning from our mistakes, and I feel as if I will leave this class having a knowledge of people's mistakes so that I may flourish in our beautiful country.

Future Students of 2216: Politics About Climate Change in the Media in 2016
Future students of 2216,
The subject of climate change has been an issue concerning people across the world. My classmates and I have set out an a journey to try and tell the future what this debate was about, and how it effected us. I have noticed that throughout my research, climate change is not a topic that is discussed civilly, it is actually an extremely "heated" subject that employs controversy to great extents. Everyone seems to have different views and beliefs, and they make sure to express them publicly. The majority of websites express blame to a certain party: the Republican party. For example, (4) The New York Times expresses their view of the evolving climate change by stating, "We may be doomed. And if we are, you know who will be responsible: The Republican Party. Journalists and reporters do not do this to make fun of conservatives' personal belief, they use the media as a way to draw in watchers by adding drama.
Media such as television, radio, or social media websites (Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook), are the main ways that people across the globe with a certain message they want to portray, communicate. The media obviously has an effect on public opinion. Most (3)news sources try to not be biased, but showing the conflicts in climate change can tend to (2)shift to the more liberal side of the spectrum. The(1)portrayal of climate change combines with hesitation, and shows uncertainty to the "facts" that they are surfacing. The claims of scientists get changed and distorted, and journalist make sure to try and get audiences to visualize the most extreme outcomes. The extent of these outcome make consequences seem more catastrophic and also on a shorter time scale. (7)"Alarmism" is used to communicate using verbose language, causing more public skepticism to increase and more drama to become surfaced.
Democrats across the world are raging with government action to try and make the environment cleaner, and the world to last as long as possible. (9) Republicans on the other hand fear that it is "an overreach of federal power and a danger to the economy." I feel as if republican views are becoming distorted, and the conservative movement is slowly declining. The majority of republicans in 2016 were born in the Boomer or Silent era, and they are (5)dying off. The Republican party is at a 2.5 million voter disadvantage, and their views are being forgotten. Even though they may be at a (6) disadvantage, "When a party is nationally unfavored, conditions can give them a shot."
In the future, I expect the issue on climate change to become larger, and more action to be taken. As a Republican myself, I believe that the Republicans need to become aware of the changes that are taking place around them. They need to become open minded, while also making sure that their beliefs are not being concealed. Republican should stand up for what they believe in, but also create a movement that welcomes outsiders. They need to try and show the world that everything does not have to include the government, and people are powerful enough to protect the world that everyone knows and loves. Democrats should stop placing stigmas on the Republican party, and instead realize that the world is currently at (8)19,000,000,000,000+ dollars in debt, and having government action will just make the debt worse. The media should POLITELY express both views of climate change instead of only expressing one, and making fun of the other. The United States of America is a free country, and people have the right to believe what they want, and express their opinion publicly. Most of all, climate change needs to be discussed civilly and publicly, because you can not solve an issue that you are constantly fighting about.
